Today, veteran game designer Cory Davis and Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck announced their new game development studio, EYES OUT. The Los Angeles-based studio taps into a shared love of games and the building atmosphere through the imaginative use of audio and visuals. The team includes passionate world builders and storytellers who believe in the powerful synesthesia that emerges from music, storytelling, and interactive experiences.
Cory Davis is co-founder of EYES OUT and was the creative director and designer of the critically acclaimed book Special operations: the line. His early projects include the equally acclaimed Sentenced and FEAR Monolith Productions franchises. In 2014, Davis was a founding member of independent studio Tangent Games and continued his work in the horror genre as the creator and songwriter of the hit hit. Here they are.
“When I finished working on Here they are, Robin walked around our studio and I felt a very strong connection to his open and creative view of the existence and power of music, âsaid Davis. âWe immediately started working on some prototypes I had in development at the time, and together we went straight into something unexpected. Robin’s dynamic and limitless approach to the creative process takes our work far beyond my previous experience. It is such an exhilarating journey to venture out into the dark together.
Robin Finck is also co-founder of EYES OUT and guitarist for industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails. He has been a prominent member of the group since 1993 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020. Robin started composing music for video games in 2014, contributing to No Code’s Observation and the dark atmosphere NOCT by Devolver Digital.
âCory is a true and passionate artist. He’s a visionary leader who gets the best out of every team member, regardless of their position. He is capable and dedicated, and he is open to unspeakable forces. It is rare. Weird, even. We connected about movies and games and music and all the minutiae, and it was a really positive charge that collided with it. We have a work ethic and a simpatico motivation, and we see ourselves soul to soul. Our game together is inspired, âsaid Finck.
The team is currently working on their first project, an immersive, single-player cosmic horror game with strong environmental storytelling elements. More information will be released in the coming months. Learn more about the studio and the job openings available on their website.
